Context

The Dialogue Room is a long-form interview series I create and host, produced under Click Catalysts / MABS. Episodes are conversations with people whose work I want to understand — recorded in long, unhurried sittings.

A conversation series built on patience. The show exists because the good parts of an interview almost always live past the twenty-minute mark, and most formats never make it there.

The Challenge

Short-form dominates. Making the case — to guests, to audiences, and honestly to myself — for slow, long conversations is a weekly exercise.

My Role

I write the questions, host the conversation, and produce the release with a small crew. Preparation is where most of the real work happens.

Approach
  1. 01

Send guests broad themes ahead of time — not scripted questions.

  2. 02

Keep the recording setup simple so the room stays conversational.

  3. 03

Record long, edit lightly. The pauses often carry the meaning.

  4. 04

Release when the episode is ready — not on a fixed schedule.

Creative Process

Preparation looks like reading, listening back to a guest's previous work, and writing more questions than we'll ever use — so the ones we do ask feel earned.

Behind the Scenes

Most episodes are one camera, one room, two chairs. The production is intentionally small so the conversation can be the loudest thing in the recording.

What we're building

An ongoing catalogue of conversations. Episodes continue to release on the official YouTube channel.

What I'm learning

"The best moments in an interview are almost always after the answer you thought you wanted. Wait for the second sentence."

If I did it again…

I'd start with audio-only. Picture came early and made the show more expensive to make than it needed to be.
